I can see why you likes this one.

The shape is reminiscent of Birt Marsh's work. He's not a bad lead to follow.

Please post another picture in a couple of months so we can see how it's moved.

If turning wet wood is your thing, have a look on YouTu8e at Lyle JAMIESON, he has a simple and very effective way of turning wet wood from start to finish. I now adopt his system and it really is effective. No chuck, usually a single tool from start to finish and excellent results.

I personally do not watch woodturners on Utube as I have seen some on there showing things that are down right unsafe and no doubt there are some that are very good. I get quite a few students that are completely confused after watching Utube.

I agree george, especially for anyone who is just starting turning. Using ground down files, chain saws, drill mounted saws and often without any protection at all. Much better going to a seasomed turner and / or club for advice, tuition etc.

I agree that there are some poor techniques on YouTube, but there are also some good turners on there and Lyle Jamieson is one of them.

Time to get back to the subject maybe somebody should start a thread about UTube.

For those of you that do not know Paul has been to me three times for tuition and his confidence is steadily building and this is the Wet turned bowl he made on his last visit with very little input from me.
Due to the depth of this bowl it was not the easiest to turn so Paul has done very well.
Having seen this bowl in real life I can assure you it is of a very high standard.
As I tell all of my students don't be disappointed when you go away and turn in your own workshop if you cannot achieve the same standard that is because you do not have your tutor standing over you.
However Paul brought in some bowls that he had made between this and his last lesson although the form needed some working on the Finnish was to a very high standard.
Paul had shown a lot of attention to detail and in time will make a first class turner.
