Critique: The walls (anything unturned) look a little dry and dusty, hopefully just the photo effect but you could try applying oil to them with a small brush.

Comment: -Jealous as hell - lovely bit of wood

OH MY GOD! This thing has more holes than wood. I'd be scared to hell and back of pieces flying off in all directions. I do hope you were wearing proper gear when you turned this.

Critique: not much other than the walls are on the thickish side (but then, that's fully understandable).
Comment: Obviously very much a show piece. I mean, what could you possibly put inside that wouldn't fall through the gaps? I probably wouldn't even have tried this. Ingenious!

David,
What a superb piece!
Why can I never find wood and holes like that?

You are a brave man, and it paid off big time.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Fantastic and I thought I was getting adventurous. Well held together and as said About the thickness I can understand why.

Many thanks to all of you who have taken the time to comment on this piece - I am very pleased that you like it.

I had originally intended for the wall thickness to be thinner but during turning some very strange sounds were coming off the wood.  I thought if I continued any further the piece would just blow apart, so decided to leave it and live to turn another day  :)  The chunkiness of it actually feels quite nice in the hand.

We all know that turning can be quite a solitary experience - beavering away alone in our workshops. The ability to put some work on this forum to get your peers or fellow turners opinion of your work (good or bad) is a great asset.  I am the worst critic of my own work, always striving to improve but not always achieving this goal. To be able to hear the opinion of others really gives me the encouragement to carry on this journey of self  improvement, so once again many thanks for your comments.

Kind regards

David

The only criticism I can come up with is that it is yours and not mine. Love this sort of thing.
