Now that silver birch is stunning. I'll have to check the logs I'd had left over from having turned the N/E Piece, there in a bin bag of the shavings, could be interesting or mulch, looked ok a month ago.

Like the sycamore piece, classic, as with the bowls, sure had a yield of some nice sycamore.

Cheers for sharing.  David

I love the classic shape of the hollow forms and, if I HAVE to choose one, then the spalted sycamore would take my vote.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Hi all

Thank you very much. Sycamore is my favorite wood as not only is it cheap to buy, turns well, it if caught at the right time when spalting a beauty of a wood and in my opinion one of the most underrated woods and far more beautiful than any exotic, of course again my opinion.

a sample of some of the bowls and grain below.

This one is spalted beach, gotta love the smiley face. :)

And this one is a 125 mm dia spalted sycamore hollow form.

Mark, the Sycamore is my favorite for shape but the end-grain spalting of the birch is amazing.

Hi Mark,
Fabulous pieces as always I especially like the first Bowl and the foot and the decoration on it most people say remove the foot but I am definitely a foot man. ::)

Hi John

Hope you are well, thank you for your comments, much appreciated. My favorite bowl forms come from the far east and traditionally they had a foot, but I also on occasions remove the foot depending upon the form of the bowl being produced.

Thank you again.

Hi Mark. That first bowl in spalled silver birch is really  beautiful. Lovely form and finish. But the pattern from the wood really makes it stand out for me. I bet that will sell very quickly. Thanks for showing and letting us see what  a lovely effect you've found. Malcolm.

Great work Mark, you have a good eye for shape and your choice of wood is the dogs mate. I enjoy looking at your work as I find the shapes of the things that you make very pleasing to the eye.
Keep up the good work, Les
