Well Cuffed
« on: October 12, 2014, 01:00:32 AM »
Opening the Woodturning mag today and saw a piece of my work at the bottom of page 8 under edbanger (a web name that I use) I'm well cuffed  :)

A lovely piece of wood, Ed, and the colour is really rich. I'm holding a good stock of logs, but I keep shy-ing away from end-grain turning with the pith intact, so this one makes me wonder. Was the wood green or seasoned, what sort of diameter is it and what wood is it?
Well done on making it into the magazine - great recognition of your work....Les

Very nice Ed, and what a wonderful surprise.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Thanks Les, Graham

It was turned green and the bottom was concaved so when the bottom moved it had somewhere to go and it moved outward. The size was 170mm x 90mm the wood was Tree of Heaven. Also I finished it with CA to try and hold it all in place.

Yes Graham it was surprise I had to look twice it must have been picked up form a forum post.

Very well done Ed, International recognition, much better coverage than the original response.

Link to thread: www.awgb.co.uk/awgbforum/index.php/topic,2468.0.html and post on WWI .. http://www.woodworkersinstitute.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=15331&title=dyed-tree-of-heaven  .... To further Turning, if not the AWGB, it would be most ideal to forge closer links, interact with and share information with other Forums. Then as individual Turners we already use most of them anyway... Sadly many view the AWGB as less active.

Cheers  David

Just out of interest.
Is it in order for a magazine to publish pics off the internet without the owners consent ?

These photos are taken from the AWGB forum usually and as I understand it any posted on the forum can be used to put into the magazine. Unless you state that a photo is not for re publishing it virtually becomes public property....may be wrong.

My mistake Graham, the forum I meant  is the Woodworkers Institute Forum. :-( sorry. This one is the AWGB forum. Senior moment there LOL
