another micro goblet
« on: February 24, 2014, 03:29:29 PM »
I used a closer grained wood this time, and adapted 2 dental skew chisels, one to turn with and one as a micro ring tool, can`t remember the name of the wood, but it came from Stiles and Bates, its really hard wood and was sanded with 10.000 grit straight after the skew chisel turning, its 8.5 mm tall,5 mm across, the ring is 4 mm across and 1 mm thick, the stem is roughly 3/4 mm thick.Sorry about pics, forgot to use tripod and timer.

Hi Eric
Someone's been to "Specsavers" !;D  How on earth can you see well enough to turn a captive ring that small?
Congratulations, very well done.  How about an off centre matching pair next??
Regards
Roderick

Now that is really well done and looks great without the open grain on the purpleheart one.

Guess I'd better make a smaller skew, my smallest is 1/8", huge by your standards.

Eric, one stunning piece, the scale of which one wouldn't guess, where's the 5p this time.

Well done.

anyone can do it really, just a matter of patients until you get your technique right really, and making/adapting tools that are smaller dimensions,I do big stuff as well, just like to keep my hand in every now and again with miniatures.

Very nice Eric and certainly a challenge for the old eyes. Have you got a picture of the tools you used. The wife has asked for some 1/12th scale bits for her dolls house

I used to do 1/12th scale and the hardest part is getting them to look right as when you get that small keeping the shape is difficult. The ones that eric is doing are a lot smaller than 1/2th mind, never done things quite that small....yet. Tempted to have a go now I've seen his LOL.

The finish on the taller goblet looks very good, I can't see any sanding rings and the shape is quite nice too.
On the shorter one I think the bowl part is a little to wide for the size ...............................only joking Eric
;D ;D ;D ;D well done on turning something that small, lets hope the rewards are bigger.
