This is a piece of mulberry that is hollowed and mounted on a piece of rescued oak. The finial is ebony with an ebonised twig. Overall the piece is 12" tall, the vessel is 3" tall and 7" diameter. Natural fissures on this one are left as is. C&C welcome.

Hi there, kindred spirit! I like this one....it inspires me to get down the woodshed and dig out all those crusty, gnarled old lumps that I gave up on last summer before I discovered wabi sabi.
Cheers Pete....Les

Thanks guys. I have a few of these in the process of being finished off at the moment and will pop on here when done. Must admit i enjoy this sort of turning as you never really know what you will end up with when you start. I must do a WIP as sometimes the lump of wood at the beginning seems just fire wood.

One of my sources for wood is a gardener who looks after a couple of estates. This was from a tree that he had to cut back severely so yes. I am sure of that.

Easy way to tell if its mullbery or acaci is to put it in front of a black light were the Acaci will glow a strong yellow colour mulbery will not

I don't have a black light I'm afraid LOL. The gardener who gave it to me has been gardening for 50 years and had been tending the tree for a lot of that time. He had to cut it back after some storm damage and labeled it when he gave it to me so I am pretty sure it is mulberry.

I believe you. I just wasn't sure myself just looking at it on here, I did think it was false Acacia.
Never heard of a black light before, this needs to be expanded on............?
