Spiral bowl with pewter bands

A variation on the spiral bowl idea using pewter sheet inserts - interesting I think anyway.

I think this looks great. I prefer it to the previous ones you've shown with the veneer inserts. This looks sharper for some reason. The colouring is good and suits the pewter inserts and I actually like the slightly thicker rim. Lovely! Well done.

Nice one Will, as ever it seems, pushing the bounds.

Mike313 - thanks and I agree about the visual sharpness, which is odd considering that the double veneer is thicker than the 1mm pewter! I am wondering about making 1mm boxwood sheets by sawing to 3mm (which I have done before) & then thinning with a disk sander and some jig using double-sided sticky.  Another thought is twin layers of white/red veneer which would make a thinner line anyway.

Very nice indeed.
I would have thought something like that would be visually very unforgiving with even slightly mal-positioned  stripes so very brave of you.

I also like the look of this , the pewter ads to the beauty of the wood for me.

Will I agree with the comments above about the look of the bowl, very striking. I do worry though that you may become victim of differential shrinkage using pewter instead of a veneer, I hope not as it is a stunning piece.

An afterthought - this pen was made by sandwiching remaining pewter sheets and remaining boxwood sheets from the 'sun' version and gluing with epoxy.  Then conventional pen process (but with no coating).   The wood is inevitably a bit greyed from the metal dust.  Perhaps a darker wood would be better (& finishing with brass polish rather than just fine 12k grit pads as here).
