Stock building

Managed to get into the workshop and started building stock for shows and web shop. This is a lovely piece of yew that I got recently. It is 13 1/2" diameter and, as yew does, came up with a glass like finish with a heard buffing with pure carnauba wax. Didn't have the heart to turn away the bit of natural edge it had so adapted the bowl to suit.

very nice pete, with the grain the way it is it gives the false impression that it's an endgrain bowl.

webshop???  what sort of price will this be flogged for then?

Thanks Steve, based on cost of wood and time etc it is up for £85

Lovely bowl and yes have to agree Yew does come up nice with a good buff. I am so glad you left the edge as it was it just adds character to the piece.
I was going to say great job on the fruit turning  but someone might think I was being serious;D

Thank you Derek. One thing I have never been able to do to my satisfaction is turn fruit. Never looks quite right. Think the pineapple would take a lot of carving / texturing and boost gthe price up a bit as well LOL.

I can just about get a decent apple but pears are a big downfall

the dramatic colours in this really shout out, yew is such a dramatic wood for colour and grain.

And you've got a great finish on this, long time since I've seen Yew shine that well.

Thank you Bryan. Must admit I love yew but don't often get my hands on pieces this size.  have another one a bit larger that is potentially better still, full of knots and twists in the grain. Should be challenging.
