yew hollow form.
« on: April 18, 2017, 10:23:49 PM »
turned this hollow form over the last few days and with the disasters I had with it. I nearly shattered it and had to glue it up so you can see the signs in the photos but happy with the outcome. the hollow form is 8x5" in size and finished with one coat sand sealer and a coat of Hampshire sheen original. all comments welcome.

Nice looking hollow form Dennis

Yew nearly always cracks so I see it as an added feature, not everybody's cup of tea but some people love the cracks.

All the best

Ed

Blue glass to fill the cracks always looks good with yew. Contrasts well with the wood.

Yew is considered a 200% wastage wood due to the inclusions and irregular growth shapes.

I think that's why cabinet makers should leave it alone and let us wood turners have it.

You've done this piece of yew proud.
