Ikea tealight holders
« on: October 06, 2015, 09:54:13 AM »
Can anyone tell me the external dimensions of the Ikea Glimma glass tealight holders ? I am going to order some but don't want to wait until  they arrive  :)
Regards
Graham
I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

47mm, that is the top diameter, they taper slightly inwards to the bottom. I usually make the hole 50mm toi allow for any slight movement in the wood.I have had one or two stick when I have made the hole exactly the right size.

I got my last lot from Wilkinsons, interestingly as I have only just measured them they are not metric but imperial at 2" at the top 1-3/4" at the base and 1-1/16" tall.

I just found a batch on ebay, being offered for auction by a private company dealing exclusively in Ikea products....how odd is that. Anyway, I paid my money and 2 days later they cancelled my order and sent me a refund....even odder!

Graham, I have given up using tea light candles and use the battery operated ones, 24 for £6 off Amazon.  No more messing about with heatproof liners.  I have a few in stock if you are in urgent need.

Thanks for that guys. I will have a look in Wilkinsons before I order the Ikea ones.

Dave. Not sure about those, could you bring one to the next meeting ?

Ikea have now stopped selling the small round glimma tea lights. They now sell square ones which are not so good for us turners.

Glad I bought 120 of them last time I ordered on-line  :). They told me at the Nottingham store that they were stopping selling them there but they would still be available on-line or at the London outlet. I haven't checked recently but maybe worth trying...as you say, squares aren't much use to us.
Cheers Rick
