With a Nod to Mondrian
« on: November 26, 2014, 09:14:46 AM »
There was something posted here a while back that i thought had a slightly Mondrian influence about it. That got me going again because I quite like the Mondrian design (amongst all the other designs) so anyway I made this last week to go in a Meet the Makers event and it sold straight away so I am a happy bunny ATMIT.
10 " diameter and made in Beech. C&C welcome as always.....good or bad. :D :D

I ought to add that the white semi circle is an acknowledgement of the white backgrounds that he used to use and the green square just "felt right" so I included it.

I also had some as a child. That is a brilliant reflection of his designs John.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

John,

I must have has a deprived childhood, never seen a plate like this before!

As such I think it's the application of a simple design that lifts a piece into the level of Art, I'm certainly not suprised it sold so swiftly.

Bet your already making a second one.

Not sure if he did pottery or ceramics his style of painting can be seen here though. John's plate is very much in the same style.

I think that you've got the essence of Mondrian's work to a 'T'. A very smart, slick piece of work.

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Hi John,
It's different, it's an uncomplicated design and it looks fantastic.
Can't wait to see the follow ones
