What a journey you've been on Eric!  We've all been on it with you.  This is one piece of work you surely won't part with.  You have been unlucky with accidents,  your postings serve as a warning to others.
Just a thought-I had the pleasure of looking at Andrew Hall's oak hats, one of which I think had been shot blasted.  It looked fantastic, the grain really stood out, have you considered a finish like this?
Hope your cut hand gets back to normal quickly so we can see the finished piece.

Eric.

I did some one handed shaping/drilling yesterday on the free moving wooden centre of the piece,I had to wedge it with sticks of wood prepared awhile ago for another project. It was carved with some new toys I just ordered from Axminster their called Saburr tooth tungsten carbide burrs,I have a 16 mm roto saw a slim 3mm long tapered and a 9 1/2 mm x 16 mm flame, they are awesome cutters they rip through oak like a hot knife through butter and also very controllable, the hardest bit was wedging the centre bit stably enough to cut and drill it,anyway heres the pics, cheers, ric.

PS,I put pics in the wrong order,so start from the bottom one and work upwards.

Eric,

with all thoses 'sticks' poking out, it's starting to to look like one of those long spined sea urchins.

Still reading your posts with interest. You've some facinating methods of working, great WiP post, keep it up.

And I hope your healing well.
