Two Hollow Forms
« on: November 21, 2012, 04:25:41 PM »
Hi All, After a break of 3 years from doing any woodturning ( do to moving house and not having a workshop ) I have just made 2 hollow forms.
No 1, Spalted beech with a ebony rim. Wall thickness approx 5/6 mm. 175 mm dia X 60 mm, Hollowing hole 52 mm
No2, Burr Beech.120 mm X 65 mm, wall thickness approx 4mm with a39 mm hollowing hole
Both are finished in thinned down cellulose sanding sealer and polished in a simonize car wax which gives a nice sheen.
All comments welcome.  Nigel

Nigel,

Welcome back to the world of woodturning.

If that's your work after 3 years of no turning, you've not lost your hand or eye.

They are lovely.

Hi all, the simonize polish I use is in a flat yellow tin and is one of the older ones they do. If you polish a car in it your arm will drop off but applied on the lathe it is very good and gives a nice finish

I remember that well, Nigel, and I only used it on a Mini !!!! maybe we applied to much ..  >:( ..  I just wonder how far the Simonize is from Microcrystalline Wax, after all Renaissance wax has been used since the 50's on metal and everything else.
