wisteria timber
« on: November 23, 2023, 01:39:49 PM »
Does anyone know anything about this?  We have recently had our old (>40 year) wisteria reduced and the exposed & removed sections look interesting, see pics.  The visible layers are not of course annual growth rings (fast but not that fast!) and are perhaps 20mm or so spaced, relatively regularly.  The wood is still very green/wet but the planer smoothed surface seems to indicate a soft layer adjacent to the darker/reddish layer so it is hard to say how this will machine eventually.  Some potential for interesting effects, though - any experience/suggestions welcome!

Thanks

Hi Will . Do what I do - let it dry naturally - seal the ends with wax or end seal. Weigh then leave to dry naturally and see what happens - just dont be too hasty. Might need to leave for a year or two - weigh occasionally and see how the weight drops over time. Good luck - PS I have my eyes on a wisteria which is about the same age but my sister wont let me take it out?
