Hi all,
this is a shape to show some people of this world. White, red, yellow and black.
This is the African type. I used to identify that "African blackwood" as head (sphere).
For the other ones I look for a wood from this region in the wished color.
I'm always looking the powerful but still elegant shape of this piece.
The body is from walnut. H= 23cm.
What's your impression ?

Jo, if I read your post correctly you intend to turn a collection of similar pieces to this, but each will have different colour head to reflect to differing peoples of the world.

I like this idea, I think it will reflect our art into the ‘One World – One People’ way of thinking, something so badly needed in today’s world.

thanks for your useful comments.
I'll turn the speres from native woods and mentioned colors from these regions.
The "Yellow" is ready and the sphere is from yellow mulberry.

Hi all,
now all people in his special color. Made the head from a native wood there.
What's the difference between the people ? - I think only the color.

I like them as a group but think they should be facing in towards each other, not out and away from each other.  It would give a more friendly effect.

as you can see, the right cut at the right place - and you have four pieces from one turning.
Sometimes you can salvage a piece with a defect by this way. Put it on the side and wait for a idea.

I've always said there's no such thing as scrap wood to a turner!
