spiral fluted vase

This one is from an unknown chunk of hardwood it came as regum originally but plainly its not. Stand 6.5" x 4.5" DO with a light buff. If you notice theres a dark spot in the central area this is some bark inclusion  not uncommon with redgum, probably suggests its one of the Eucalypt family.

Hughie,

Another stunning spiral form from you.

I'm going to get some of those Eucalytpt seed sent over sometime. We have Eucaliptus growing here in the UK, but it's a grey timber, course grained and spilts internally while drying - awful stuff - nothing like some of the timbers I see you guy's turning and showing off.
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

Hi Hughie

Very nice. I just wonder what it would have looked like if you had spiralled the other way? It appears your spiral would have matched the flow of the grain.
Regards
Dave

That is very very nice love it I found that over here you have to turn it wet otherwise as said already it splits and is fit for nothing

That's very nice indeed. I would be interested in learning how you made the spirals thanks. Malcolm.

George,

I posted this in answer to another question in the General Discussion Threads. It's a 'how to' make the spiral forms Hughie makes (and he wrote & posted elsewhere).

Hughie,

I trust you have no objection to me directing people to your other threads.

We have over 300 species most of which good for firewood only, a few are stable enough to turn.
