oak and elm hollow form.
« on: April 29, 2020, 10:15:19 PM »
Well after a bad day with a Oak hollow form taking the neck of it so I decided to fit a separate top to finish it of. I used what I think is elm for it. All comments welcome.

A neat solution possibly better than the original intention!  It does look a bit narrow at the base - how stable is it?

No problem with a seperate top, seen it done many times and as you note, it hides a multitude of sins.

Don't mind the sperate top, personally I would have had a wood that was more of a con trast but that is just me. Not too sure about the shape towards the base though ? Unusual

Obviously we are not party to the original intention but I have no problem with the insertion, it looks a proper job. Yes, there may be a problem with the base visually.

after a lot of comments on the hollow form I made the other day that the bottom was to small and would be out of balance so took the comments and the hollow form and re turned it and then decided to use black embellishing wax. the photos are a before and after. all comments welcome.

IMHO much better shape. Not just practical but aesthetically as well.
