I thought the ply inserts were branch oysters until I looked at the picture full size. That's a very interesting effect you've created, maybe one to push further?

Thanks for the comments. I was shown how to start off  segmented  turning by a kindhearted fellow turner who willingly persevered with me until I "got it". Then I was off and running. I have used ply many times before, but this was my first attempt at combining it with segmented work. I will keep experimenting and am currently working on adding some other "bits" to a segmented bowl - it may or may not work! Success or failure it will lead to other trials, that to me is the challenge.
