Yew and sycamore spheres
« on: May 22, 2018, 01:35:51 PM »
I have been playing with a lot of wet wood lately and I have always wanted to turn spheres so I thought that I would have a go. Your c and c are more than welcome.

The yew sphere is six" and the sycamore sphere is 8" both are hollowed out and placed on walnut stands.
The coloured sphere was painted with the jo Sonja iridescent paint and is still drying as I'm typing.
I hope that you like them Les.

As much as I love yew, it's the 6" sycamore that gets my attention...a good size and nothing to detract from the shape.

Thank you Les, It's my first time at using colour in my turning and I have gone over a few of the other colours in a few places but I'm pleased with the end result. Les

Les,

They look like very well shaped spheres well done on achieving that.

I like the Yew and think the plain Sycamore is great, but the coloured one fails just ever so slightly for me. The colours, although blown to create the effect, are still in blocks, an area of Blue,an area of purple etc., I think it might look a little better with the colours all randomly through each other.

Other than that, all you need now is a Fortune teller looking for as new globe.

Many thanks for liking my spheres and for your comments dr4gonfly, I will have a go at randomly colouring the next one.  Les

After taking dr4gonfly's advice I had a go at randomly colouring another six inch hollowed out sphere, this time I put the six different coloured paints on cling film and then wrapped the cling film around the sphere.
I'm not sure if it needs some more paint or if i should leave it as it is, I suppose i could use it as a background
What do you guys think, your c and c are more than welcome. Les

The colouring on this one is much more subtle, but not unattractive.
