open segment bowl
« on: November 30, 2017, 06:06:01 PM »
This open segment bowl is 22cm diameter at the top and 8cm high. It is made from over 2000 pieces of maple, wenge, purple heart, yellow heart, osage orange and bloodwood. Each row has 60 segments at just a little over 2mm thick.

This is completely nuts, in a good way. I absolutely love this, but from my experience doing segmented work I know that I will never, ever, ever do anything coming even close to that.

Holy Moly!
That is seriously impressive; I cannot imagine doing something like that, even after a drop of wine to help my imagining cells. I love the pattern, so much so that I don't think I'd want to put anything in the bowl.

It's mind-boggling in its complexity, in the planning and the execution of the glue-up stage and in the amount of care that you must surely have taken to turn it.....and that's coming from a bloke who doesn't really like segmented work. You've done an amazing job!

I would guess that the planning took as long if not longer than the making of this. I would have no idea where to start and salute your patience, skill etc in making it. Beautiful work.

Malcy,

first thought - you've got too much time on your hands!

What could I add that has not been said, nothing, so I'll just leave this here -  WOW

This bowl has been chosen as the turning of the month and will be featured on the AWGB website. Well done Malcy, I don't know how you find the time for something like that! ;)
