We had a member in the club in Cornwall who was in a wheel chair and apart from the height of the lathe his only limitation was some limitation of movement with his body. He found spindle work a lot easier than face work but that may have been a personal thing. May sound silly but try sitting in a chair in front of your lathe and doing some turning to try and get a perspecticve of what it is like.

As I remember the height was just above his knees and found the hardest part was sideways movement. He was able to move his body but was limited by the chair. He struggled with bowls but made amazing pens. We also had a blind turner who was great at bowls but found spindle work more difficult.

Hi George
Andrew Hall has had a lot of experience teaching disabled woodturners.  I'm sure he would willingly give you some advice.

George good for you,you took the bull by the horns and wrestled it to the ground(figuratively speaking). There is no doubt in my mind that positive mental attitude from you and your student helped overcome most obstacles. This would make a good magazine article.
