Smashing time
« on: June 17, 2017, 06:35:23 PM »
As the title I had a smashing time doing this one. This was just experimenting with the rim.

As of yet this bowl has not got a name.

I kept the main bowl and underside simple as I wanted the rim to speak for this one.
Wood is unknown but I believe it is maple if you know different then please let me know(I don't get maple usually).

It measures 13 1/2" X 2 1/2" and the decoration was done using acrylic paints

C & C welcome

Thank you one thing I did not want to do is put it onto a black background like so many other designs and because the white look a little transparent it is not so harsh.

Cubism? Crazy Paving?

I've no idea how to classify this, but the use of colour is very well done.

Was it feehand or an airbrush?

Wood  - The grain effect just to the left of the left-hand grain ring looks a bit like beech to me.

Thank you Bryan and Ed.

Yes Bryan it is applied using an airbrush. Not Beech as I have plenty of that but someone did suggest Sycamore

To me this looks a little like cedar. Any aromatic smell during the turning?

No none at all the shavings come off in little spirals a little like one of the pasta's. My other thought was Lime

Here is a bottom view

Not my cup of tea design wise, never been a fan of geometric designs but what you have done is really excellent. The design looks almost 3D with the gradation in the colouring. And the clearly defined shapes are spot on.

OK, with a closer look at the underside, I'd say it probably is a type of maple, either sycamore or field maple.

Thank you Pete I have other ideas and even thought of doing this again but using a mixture of colours instead of just white.

Thank you, someone else also said possibly Sycamore
