Take Flight
« on: May 10, 2017, 04:10:45 PM »
Diane asked me for some birds to Dip/Marble , so got in touch with my friend Jack Bray to make some for her. After watching
Jack make them and having a lesson I am now in full production  ;D ;D..... These are the first 4 that Diane dipped / marbled.

The Interference paint is on the top one of the pair and on a single one..... the rest are iridescent paints as usual one heck of
a job trying to photograph them as both interact  differently with the light.
 Comments As Always Much Appreciated
 Kind Regards Tony Di

Ps put them on a bowl so could put them on turning forum/

Thank You Les...wasn't sure if they would turn out ok, it was though a very pleasant surprise  with the paint attaching
    so well.

Thank You John.... also looking forward to the demo, it was dipping these that gave me the idea.

Hi Tony, Di  --  Is this the person that we see at Yandles, I have often wondered how they are made but he has never been demonstrating while I have been passing his stand. I must make a point of having a closer look in September if he is there. Do you know if he has a website ?   --  Julian

Thank You Ed.... Think the paints seem to attach better on a more rough surface than on a fine sanded.
  Kind Regards Tony Di

Very sorry Julian can't help you with the name, but do know it was not Jack.... They are known as Fan Birds ( see you tube )
They have been made by many people for a long time all over the world.... The Legend of the Fan Bird
   goes back to Medieval Times..
Hope This Helps.. Kind Regards Tony Di

Another post of mine has not appeared, that's about 3 over the last few months.

Lets see if I can remember...

Tony, well done on learning to make these birds,

Di, even more well done on the idea to marble them with iridescent colours,m they look stunning.

Thank You Bryan.... You may remember a post we put on about late 2013 early 2014 with some of Jack's birds on a
root... we still have them and I have often thought about painting them but didn't think they would look right, finally
decided to marble some. The paints have taken much better than expected.
  Kind Regards Di Tony
