What am I

A little game.

I was asked to turn this and there will eventually be another one with 4 channels.

Info.

It is a hand tool for a particular application, it is made of beech, 160mm diameter by 110mm high and has a handle either side. The 3 channels are 40mm diameter and are this size specifically as they are the most important part of the tool for its application. So...

...What am I?

Don't know the name for it, but it's used in making rope on a rope-walk.

For twisting rope strands. Comes in various plies. Used to have them on the ships.

Yes, it's a rope top, but why the extra wide rope guides?

The ones we used were able to twist smaller yarns or rope that was already twisted so making thicker ones for mooring. Saved having a seperate one for every size rope. They were a pain to use though as you had to twist them really tight . Fortunately it was just something we had to learn to do so we could tell the crew how to do it LOL.

The extra wide guide channels are not for extra big rope. The person I made this for makes Bell Pulls for church Bells.

The woolly bit at the bottom of the rope is called a Sally, and they are twisted into the rope while it is being made.
