Wow, that's got great texture.  It could almost be mistaken for reptile skin in places.  Looks remarkably thin.  Very nice piece.

A cracking piece of wood Mark... You have certainly captured the organic look of it.

Hi all

Thank you very much.

Chris

Thank you. for these I generally turn the wall thickness to around 3 mm as with a burr there can be quite a bit of movement so going fairly thin allows for this quite readily without cracking (hopefully).

Andy

Thank you, this piece is 160 mm dia x 140 high.

Toni & Di

Thank you, on this occasion nature made my job easy :-)

Dennis

Thank you.

Taken a break from texturing today to turn this Robinia Burr hollow form. The burr was given to me by a mate who generally only turned Oak so he gave me all of his Robinia burrs, a trailer full. Have to say I do enjoy turning it and the figuring is amazing. Hollowed with the Crown Midi Revolution and finished in lemon oil at the moment for sanding. Once dry will seal with Cellulose sanding sealer, buffed and then noncrystalline wax and buffed again.

The lemon oil allows me to sand thin work so to reduce heat and chances of cracking. Lemon oil will totally evaporate and can be over covered with finishes that would not normally be compatible with oil
WOW, is all I can think of Mark.  Great piece.

Mark,

the bark voids rally bring this piece to life. Almost like looking at a rock face with a large cave in it.
