A new commission
« on: June 13, 2016, 09:37:11 PM »
It's taken a month or so to get this job underway....sourcing a very special stone and choosing the right piece of timber and leather. The basic platter was cut this morning and I've got the draft design work for a load of pyro-engraving done. Hopefully, the client will 'ok' all this and then the various materials can come together in a few days time

Too true, Pete. I guess that the danger with pieces like this is that if the customer sees only the finished article in the shop window, they're inclined to see £10 worth of wood and a piece of stone, so they may well undervalue the planning and the artwork. I make sure that when I'm on a commissions like this, I start with offering a price range and then I keep the customer updated on progress/hours spent on the piece. Fortunately this customer appreciates the work involved and is happy to pay for it.

I'm looking forward to seeing this one Les.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?
