Alder H/F adjusted !
« on: May 16, 2016, 10:01:14 PM »
Thanks for all the recent comments on my wee coloured Alder H/F. A few people have mentioned the finial and how it looked a bit heavy(plus a few other comments). I agree that the finial was a bit on the heavy//thick side so I have re-worked the original finial and also had another wee play and done one in Ash, then coated it in Ebonising lacquer. Not sure about the ash one, comments are welcome on all three. Pictures are of the original, the re-worked and the ash finial/lid.

I agree with GBF. On the third one the quite steep incline of the lid itself doesn't fit well with the overall flow (IMHO). The finial itself is fine and would have probably worked quite well if it sat on a lid like in the second picture.

Many thanks George and Fuzzy, I agree, I like the second one best. Didn't think the last one would work, but hey! gotta try these things out.

Agreed...the second one flows better.
Even after all the debate about the finial, the colouring and finish is what stands out to me.
I've some Ash burr in mind to try the same treatment on.
Cheers

Gary,

the paint effect is great, really interesting and colourful without being overly bright.

I'm going to be contrary again. I like the 3rd finial but not the taller cap which works against the shape of the vase. The flatter cap of the second picture with the third finial would be the best combination for me.
