Carved Bowl 111
« on: May 14, 2016, 05:32:40 PM »
Just created another Carved Oak Bowl I seem to be on a bit of a run with these.

This Bowl is 13" x 3"

I like all of these George, but this one in particular.  The rim on this one adds another dimension, being somewhere in between the heavily scorched bottom and the plain interior.  the bead also makes a big difference.  Very nice series developing there.

I agree with Chris, the piece is balanced by the scorched an cut back rim rather than a straight forward oak / scorched oak contrast. I particularly like the bead, that adds another dimension and makes you question "How did he do that?"

Great piece
Cheers
Rick

Nice work George. Did you carve freehand? and what did you use?
I agree the bead does add to the balance of the bowl and it looks very nicely finished too.
just one last cut and it will be perf...oh boll.....!

Thank you all for your comments they are very much appreciated.

It does not look like I am going to get any peace until I tell you how I do this
I have not said because I consider it to be very very risky
I use a mini grinder with a 3" chainsaw disc I wear a steel butchers glove on both hands and wrists and welding gloves over them.
It is all done free hand.
I do not recommend doing this as it could possibly be dangerous

This is the one fpor me. The texture is far more my cup of tea. Be intersting to see where these lead.

I think I have one of those chainsaw discs somewhere. Couldn't this be done with an ordinary angle grinder?
