Can anyone recommend a basic drawing software package for drawing spirals please.
Constraints are an ageing laptop with dual core processor and a basically enumerate operator

It would be helpful if you could clarify if you want to draw a SPIRAL or a HELIX.

Also do you want software for Apple Mac or Linux... or even Windows?

At the moment 2 dimensions so I guess a spiral.
You may now guess that I'm not familiar with this stuff. I can draw a spiral freehand but I want to get more precise

If you Google 'free cad for beginners' you will find dozens of different programmes. Most are 2d which should be fine for your purposes. Smart Draw is probably as good as any.

Free from Google and enough powerful tools to do anything you'll want.

Also there is a huge online user-base that create tutorials, basic libraries of drawings and will help you if you get stuck.
