sycamore Burr
« on: March 25, 2016, 08:33:03 PM »

Tom ( Flames ) Gave me this Sycamore Burr 2 weeks ago and was dripping wet when I got it so rough turned it and then
microwaved it for 7 days constant it took it down to 1% moisture then left it a day to pick up some moisture.
Turned it and then sanded it which took forever . The finish is some new to me Danish oil  that Tom gave me( Mylands )
Thought we would post this Simple Bowl And Bowl Save as its the First Sycamore Burr we have ever had.
Comments as always are most welcome
    Kind Regards Tony di

I love the weight of these two pieces...good solid shapes in good solid bodies.

p.s. ... that wood is just to die for!
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

 Hello Di & Tony,
I love these bowls I don't think every thing needs embellishment with wood as nice as this let the wood do the talking I also like the chunkiness what was the size please.

Hi Tony di, as someone who really loves adding colour I think these are both very nice on their own, no colour needed(although I might have left one plain and coloured the other, lol).
Very nicely done.

Rgds

Gary

This is probably sycamore at its very best. I like the simple shapes, they allow the viewer to really take in all the figure in the grain. Very nice. Now how do we all get hold of Tom?

seeing as it's not coloured i was wondering if it is field maple rather than sycamore?

i've had plenty of field maple and it is that yellow colour rather than the creamy white i often think of with sycamore.
