natural edged burr elm bowl.
« on: February 16, 2016, 08:57:43 PM »
well got the chance to turn the last bit of burr elm that I got last year. took a lot of thinking on how to chuck it. it is 8"x3" and finished with butchers block oil and then burnished.

It looks like the section of burr was not that thick and even irregular in it's thickness. You've done well to get this out of it and keep a good natural edge as well.

It looks like a Cow pat that has been stepped in, a waste of a nice burr.
I do not understand why we are seeing so many of these flat bottomed steep sided bowls lately are they in fashion is that it.
There was enough thickness in this burr to have made a nicely shallow rounded bowl.
Such a shame.

well actually George you are wrong as there was next to nothing left in it. I was lucky to get what I did from it. it was all one sided and hard to get a chucking point on it as most of the centre part was eroding away and only just managed to grip when I did. but I think I will re name this a cow pat bowl just for you. many thanks for looking.
