« on: November 25, 2015, 07:31:22 PM »
I recently acquired some very nice Ash , with strong olive colouring , a bit of spalting and a lot of ripple .....some for H / F's and the rest for bowls , one roughed out already just to see what it was like and I do not think I have seen better .... happy days !!

If you have space to store all of this, then you are a very lucky man indeed. That first rough turned bowl is just marvellous.

With timber with a grain like this, why would you buy a tropical wood.

I, in fact have never bought tropical wood , not an ethical thing it's just that there is so much fabulous wood available locally for very little ( firewood ) if  an effort is made , often the most knotty . ugly, half rotten lump can provide the best results , The Ash above had fallen through a farmers fence some time ago and he could only cut off the branches himself  as he only had a small saw ,and when I was working very close by he asked if I could cut it for him as he wanted to re-establish the fence line . It was VERY muddy though !!
