Little Yew Box
« on: November 23, 2015, 10:24:38 PM »
I found a piece of yew in my store, which was too short to make a candle stick or vase from it, and it clearly came from a tree that had been bent, and this was a cut just covering the bend itself. This has in effect produced something akin to curly yew (if there is such a thing). As you can see in one of the shots, the sapwood shows wrinkles.
I cannot claim original design for the shape, as much as I would like to do that. This box is based on a design by English/Canadian turner Steven Kennard. His boxes are sublime, and mine is merely a copy. About 3" diameter and 3.5" tall.
All C&C welcome.

Now that is attractive and an interesting shape as well, not the normal box form.
