love the wood, you're making me very envious of the woods you have access to your side of the planet.

Hi Pete

That is a very nice Bowl but I thought Blackwood was black.

Love the bowl....it's a shape that just begs to be touched. I'm intrigued by the timber, though. I guess that over here we tend to think of African Blackwood (Dalbergia Melanoxylon) whenever the term 'blackwood' is used. Any idea what the Linean name for your blackwood is?

australian blackwood is acacia melanoxylon and is related to hawaian koa both being rather large trees for the true acacia family.

The rolled rim and undercut sure adds to the form, draws the eye and makes it an exceptional piece, as with the wood, nice to see the unusual.

Cheers for sharing, look forward to seeing more pieces.   David

Thanks for the great feedback, yes it is Tasmanian Blackwood, two very old tree came down in a storm some years ago on my then son in laws farm, they were about 150 years old, they were milled on site and yielded over 43 cubic metres.
I have found it finishes well with Danish wipe on wipe of several coats then a good buff on the mop
cheers
Pete

I'm not a fan of very thin bowls, the soap bubbles as I call them, but I do not love the very thick bowls either. Which is the thickness of this one?

Not sure of the thickness Sevilla, I entered it in the Auckland Royal Easter show a few years back & it sold opening day, it was made in the Donut style so it wouldn't have been a thin bowl for sure, thanks for your feedback.

A beautiful wood and I love the simplicity of the shape.
Very nice.
