Rimu plate
« on: July 30, 2015, 01:02:09 AM »

First post on this forum, this is a simple Rimu plate I turned some time ago, it had some nice figuring so I left it natural, added a undercut lip to give a bit of carry to the hollowing, size is about 12"
Any comments welcome
pete

Hello Pete, and welcome to the forum. It's always great to see new members, and also great to see new woods - that's one I've not heard of before. Lovely figure in it and the undercut rim causes just enough shadow to delineate the hollow. Excellent; looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Beautiful wood, presumably a NZ native. Lovely simple plate letting the wood do all the shouting.

Hi Pete, welcome. Nice piece of turning, and before Dragonfly says it if you turn it upside down it looks like a snakes head.

Hi Pete, welcome.
Thats a lovely bit of wood and you have treated it well.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

I see a snakes head without turning it upside down.
It is a lovely, simple piece, with an wonderful grain.
I like it :)

Keh!

Hi Pete,  welcome to the forum.

I can't improve on what's been said before, but I am fascinated by the row of curly grain around the lower area of the Whale's head.
