Some bowls......
« on: July 12, 2015, 01:20:48 PM »
Just some simple bowls.  Been doing a lot of practising following my day with Mark Hancock, it's been very good for the firewood pile!  I think these have turned out ok though.  In order, elm (7.5" x 3"), spalted sycamore (7" x 2"), oak (8" x 2").  C&C welcome.

I'd say there is not much wrong with your shapes, they all look pleasing to me. I like the sycamore bowl the most out of the three.
Unless my eyes are deceiving me, I can see some tool marks on the first two bowls. On the first one, on the inside, right under the rim, and on the second one you seem to have some chattering marks on the outside, and I think there are also some on the inside. If you can get rid of them, then I'd say: good work.

Looking good Chris.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Yes, Yes & Yes, but the first one is more YES.

These are well turned, very well shaped and excellently finished. Nice work.

I so like Elm, an this is just perfect, can't ever fault lovely Oak nor the Sycamore, each is far from simple in form and finish.

Cheers for sharing.  David
