Club Challenge - What is it?
« on: May 30, 2015, 07:09:44 PM »
At this months Avon & Bristol club night, the theme was 'A Toy'.

I turned this and came second, (Yes the missing bit is important), can you tell what it is?

Looks interesting. is it a ring of trees for a farm yard set. Cut into slices and then stood up to represent trees

Well I have to say I'd hoped it would run better that it did but well done Les, a ring of sheep it is.

SWMBO decorated a multi-axis lady I'd turned as Mary, here she is with her little lambs.

Ed,

You're not alone, nobody who handled the ring could see the sheep in it, which is why I thought it would take far longer than it did before someone got it,

Les,

I couldent comment, but I've always known them as the 'Woolly bush suicide squad', due to their habit of deciding to cross the road, just as you draw level with them in the car!

I know that chess knights are turned in a similar way then cut out and carved. I have always wanted to have a go at it, this seemed like a good way to practice. I was also able to use up a blank that was otherwise useless (soft and worm eaten, you can see the holes if you look).

You should worry, I thought it was a left handed one.  :)

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?
