Yew Bowl with Gilded Rim
« on: April 22, 2015, 08:23:51 PM »
A lump of yew presented me with this little bowl. I decided to leave some of the bark as a counterpoise to the wonderful finish Yew can give.

I saw a little more effort than a straight bowl and the slightly raised rim with a bit of texturing and a rub of gilding wax.

It stands 110mm high by 150mm wide.

C&C welcome.

That is very nice, the combination of the yew and bark in this way really stands out. I particularly like the base. ( especially with cream cheese )

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Guy's, you'd break your teeth on these crackers, they are limestone.

I suppose I should have ironed the backing cloth, all the wrinkles in it did not help with the photography, which is why I elevated it slightly.

I really must find a better stand to put my pieces on to photograph them, but taking photos is not something I'm especially great at.

Why do I get Cave ...  the bark as left, looks a lot like a carved scene, figures within an interior .. Then I've had a long day .. :( ..

Really nice piece, texturing and the gilding works ... then with the bark is it too much.

I'm getting conflicting form from the images, as all my pages have fine blue lines running vertically .. I'm thinking it's this notebook ...

Cheers

Mark,

Thank you, it was a small bit of yes so simple clean lines seemed the best.

David,

how strange, it is normally me that sees things in other peoples turnings but as soon as you said cave and figures they jumped right out at me, plain as day.
