I read the time of your post wrong George, thought it was 3 am  ::)
I think your treatment just lifts an ordinary piece of wood into another level, makes it so much more attractive and also adds value.

Thank you Andy woodturners underestimate the beauty of Macrocarpa it has beautiful grain and colors well.
Most tree surgeons chip it or cut it up for firewood as nobody wants it.
In the States they use a lot of it

Getting fed up with you George, I am not at all keen on coloured wood but you keep producing the blithering things and I have to accept that they can look good. Keep this up and I am going to have to have a go myself.

Turned macrocarpa and agree it is very under rated along with leylandii.

Thank you Pete the smell can be a bit overpowering but it is lovely to turn.
I will turn you on to color yet LOL
The thing about using the spirit stain is you can still see the grain

wish i could get hold of some but as you say george most tree surgeons are way too fast to chip it or log it...

Hi George...Les here (the other one).....this is one of those bowls that stands as a perfect example of when and where colour can be used to its best advantage, and what a warm, rich colour it is.

Les...the Welsh one!

Lovely colour  and like  the way it drifts together , The dark rim high lights this really well.
