Simply Pine
« on: January 04, 2015, 04:49:13 PM »

Tonys been sorting out his wood and just before Christmas came across some Pine lurking at the back of the hut.
So over the last week turned these.  For a change they are finished in treatex oil which seems to have worked.
The large bowl is 9 I/2" x 4".......... comments as always welcome
       Regards Tony di

I don't think that is a simple bit of pine. They look gorgeous.

Graham
I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Hi Di & Tony
Once again you excel in you turnings and I agree with Graham not a simple bit of pine I don't think anyone would have guessed the wood

if you had not told us I thought it looked a bit like Norfolk Pine. Happy new Year to you & Di

                                                                  Regards John

     Thank You Very Much Graham.

Thank You John..... The bowls were turned from a very twisted lump ...... the vases from a  twisted branch.
Its been there that long Tony could not remember. A happy new year to you John.

Went for a walk today down a neglected creek with hawthorn, hazel and other trees all broken down and I wished I had my chain saw with me. All twisted and gnarled. These sort of pieces are IMHO what wood turning is all about, letting the wood do the shouting. Simple shapes expertly turned to let the natural beauty shine through.

Thank You Twig... Some Nice Figure in that piece.

Thank You Les..... and Pete..... Its something I`ve dismissed in the past, like most people. Having another  search around to see
if there`s anymore . Think there might be some hawthorn out there as well somewhere.  :)

Beautiful collection you've turned once again, I think that the patterning in the wood is lovely, you have done pine proud what a eye catching set.
Well done.
