As these are your first attempt at segmented work they are both quite impressive
not the easiest of things to do.

I reckon you have made an excellent start. More intricate assemblies will come with more practice.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

I'm most impressed with your level of achievement, all things taken into account these are well assembled, turned (given different grain alinement) and finished.

Well done.  David

Very good first segmented vessels. Can you tell us what sizes these are? Your base for the bowl looks to be one solid piece. Is that so? This is where the size of the vessel is important.. If that base is more than about 4 inches diameter, you could see some base directional expansion issues and some of the lower row joints parting. For larger vessels, a floating base should be used. Something to bear in mind if you make any larger vessels in the future. Malcolm.

The lower base is about 4", so I'll keep an eye on it for changes. To be honest in relation to the rest, when I did it, I used boards I had laying around and cut 12 segments per layer. Thanks for the advice.

That's ok. If you really want to get into segmented turning I suggest you look at the forum at www.segmentedwoodturners.org. This is a chapter of AAW and is superb for segmenters. Great advice and knowledge sharing. Best of luck. Malcolm.
