A bowl with a hole, right up my street. Never turned blood wood but it looks really lovely, The simple shape (not as easy as some think) is perfect for the wood.

Hi John....I had to laugh when I saw the title of your post, just 'Bowl'...that's brevity for you, but well in keeping with the simplicity of the form. I especially like the soft-edged, rolled rim.
It's a winner for me...Les

A lovely piece of wood expert;y turned. I really like the form and degree of rolled lip

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Ingrowing bark, holes & cracks!

not so many years ago this piece of wood would have been consigned to the firewood pile. Thank heavens times and peoples asthetics have changed.

A long time since I've seen a bit of bloodwood, and this is browner than I remember but none the less a stunning piece of work.

Hi John, Good to hear from you and see you've had chance to turn up a very nice bowl, classic form and oil finish. Done justice to a splendid piece of timber, can't fault at all, really like the piece. Well done.

What have you given it as a foot, if at all.

Cheers  David

Interesting on your comment of the color, Bryan, I've come across few pieces as yourself. Have pulled up images, most look to be creamy, brown and only some are red .. wonder if like purple heart when turned will be brown, but if left before applying a finish turns back purple ..ish.

  Hi David & Bryan,
The wood looks moor Red in real life I guess it is the photographer. I left a foot on as I felt it needed lifting about 2mm to show the shape just
my personal thoughts.
                                    Regards John

Cheers John, On answering as much Bryan's, than my question on the color. The foot has added the right balance to the piece, very much in keeping with the classic form you've achieved.
