Cube box
« on: May 17, 2014, 10:12:08 PM »

The weather has given me time in the shop. It's no doubt been done at sometime, here's my take on a Cube box and the prototype, room to expand the form and develop it further.

Only large section I'd to hand was Tulip wood, yet it was not square, final size has finished at 3.18" (7.8cm) an that's as a square.

C&C as always welcomed.  Cheers  David

Hi Dewi....I do believe that in the year or more in which I've been visiting this forum, this is the first item of yours that I've seen.....and it's quare, not round  ???  ;D
Seriously, though, I like the idea and might even pinch it!

very clever must have taken a bit of time, but well worth the effort. If you sell your work then you will have to do them in sets of three, that will keep you busy :)

Great to see something different I like it.

Very nice. That must be tricky to get right.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Something away from the usual  Box   Skilfully executed and well finished.
    A very nice piece.

Mark, thank you for the comment, I'm honored... now should you see it...  :-[ ..

Les, it's more likely to have been done somewhere or at sometime, feel free to put your spin on it, with any work we look back an see means to alter and simplify the project, as long as the section is square, never mind the length, it's like making a ball, the waste makes the lid.

Ed, Graham, it's getting it square without a jointer/planer and should the bandsaw run out... lot of work with the disc/belt sander.  Tricky not if it's setup right... Sets of three ..   :o ..  :D ..

Eric, it could just extend into being dots/numbered.

Di, when I consider the work of both you, I'm honored with your comments.

Cheers  David

David,

I've seen dice turned before this but never a cube hollowed, very clever.

My first thought was waterproof it and call it an Ice-Cube container, but at under 8cm it would not hold much ice, can you do a bigger one?

Cheers Bryan, now there's an idea ... when it comes to size, 4" at best is the biggest in most square section, the width I had here was one end with a side at 3 1/2" the rest were less and once I'd got it true, well.

David

PS ... 40th Anniversary of the Rubik's Cube ... no idea as to that with making this, just came up on google.
