Does anyone know if this chuck is direct threaded or uses inserts therby allowing it to be used on more than one thread ?

You could probably either find an insert or get one made for a different thread though. I had to to fit my nova onto a Poolewood lathe

There are three versions of the G3:-
  • M33 x 3.5mm as used on some Axminster lathes
  • 1" x 8 tpi
  • 3/4" x 16 tpi as used on most Record lathes

I would go for the largest size and then use inserts to fit other lathes as necessary.

I have successfully used an insert to convert the G3 from my Record DML VS (¾" x 16 tpi) to my Nova DVR XP (1¼" x 8tpi), no problems.
