New England Fall
« on: March 15, 2014, 03:04:19 PM »

                                       NEW ENGLAND FALL
Did not need to wear my crash helmet for this piece  :)
We had discussed making a piece without any decorative elements from American White Oak. seeing we live in a little house
on a wood pile I thought Tony would find some but did  NOT. So we used Bleached Oak instead, it looked very bland, so i added some
Acorns and Leaves. Although we have only been posting for a short time we have picked up a few tips. The main one being leave
things loose which we have done this time in case one of you comes up with something different. Thanks for the tips.
The Acorns are pewter coloured and the leaves are cut out of pressed  steel and coloured.
Comments Welcome  Di and Tony

I am a sucker for these composition pieces, something I have been doing though not perhaps quite to your standard. I also found that leaving all the seperate pieces loose is far better as any prospective owner can then arrange to suit themselves as well.

Tony,

beautiful collaboration work as always, but can I pick a minor hole in your title (sorry),

New England is famous for the Reds & Golds of the maple leaves in the Fall, not Oaks. I'm not saying they don't have oaks mind, it's just the leafs don't match the common perception of the title.

You've made that look so good a Squirrel has nicked one of the nuts .. bet he'd found it harded than usual..  ;D ..

Bleaching has given it an unusual look .. could be nougatine almost.

Well done.   David

Cheers, looks to have taken a leaf as well, maybe to cover some embarrassment...

Was it a squirrel .. what was the critter in Ice Age and it's having to have the Acorn.. the piece puts me more in mind of that time... more cool in form, than cold.

I like this a lot, especially the bleached oak I prefer the first one with the two sets of nuts on it just seems to balance better well for me it does
