Hi Tony....not sure what Diane was after, but she must surely be pleased with this. It so befits the title and the textures are amazing....that oak is so stone-like.

Well Tony & Di,

Every part has pulled together so well, love the details, it is by chance too, how the knot in the front edge of the plinth has split an radiated in such away.

Yet another prized work .. Art as Ed has mentioned. Well done.

The original theme was to be Pompeii and Herculaneum, diane struggled with the paint this time and could not hit on the right
colour so that's on the back boiler.Still trying too keep to a archaeological theme she asked for some oak which was bleached.to give
.a petrified stone feel. But then asked were did the coliseum come from. But very pleased with the out come

regards tony diane.

Tony,

I'm not sure what I like more, the bowl or the base it sits on. The effects you've created (for Diane) by bleaching and use of the natural defects in the timber make the piece for me.

I will make on comment, the coins (are they real) are too shiny for something that's supposed to have been buried for almost 2000 years. Can they be chemically tarnished or something to enhance the overall effect?

Hi Bryan  I have to agree with you about the coins being bright. They are cast pewter then painted gold with a few left silver.

Since the photo we have toned them down by adding a little verdigris wax, also I don't think the flash has done it any favours

Been shopping today (that's a first) to buy some timber to make a light box for Di

       Regards Tony

Hi Georg

I was going to make a light box then I thought......diesel to go and fetch timber, timber, white material, lights etc......do I need all this hassle so ended up buying a 50cm light box complete with tripod for a camera, two 50watt gu10 spots on tripods, white blue black and red background material and a case to keep it all in! On ebay for about £28 incl.p&p Have a look at my recent posts.

Regards,
Roderick

          Hi Roderick.
I have already spent £20+ on wood (can be used for shelves in the workshop so not wasted).

I was looking on E Bay earlier to day at probably the same kit you have and after viewing
your work, minds made up I will order one.

          Regards Tony
