Hi Woody....I quite like this and am tempted to have a go at something similar. What intrigues me about the grain pattern is the way that the grain seems to keep 'missing a beat' as it crosses the medullary rays....almost looks as though there are genuine, three-dimensional steps in the surface!

Woody, that's a novel use of a plank that might otherwise be curt up into 2 small bowl blanks or spindles.

I'll bet that 'foot' was fun spinning around while you were shaping it.

Woody, you never fail to amaze us .. the sad part ... we don't think of it first ...  ;D ..

You'll no doubt talk us the piece went wrong .. and this is the saved result .. not by design, in part as the small foot may well have been added to level things up as the other wing went missing ... or it is what it is, and by design.

Like it and well done.

Thank you all for your positive remarks it is just as I intended it to be David and not the first one Ive made the small foot is a spigot that Fitted in the O'Donnell jaws to hollow the bowl and finish the top of the wing which left me with a scar on my hand just a brief moment of laps of concentration LOL but non the less how satisfying when a plan comes together

Hi Woody

Very artistic,I like it very much. Never tried using vinegar, will have to give it a go this week.

Rod, a link to an old thread giving details of how Woody does it and my method for making the blackening solution.
