working with pewter
« on: September 29, 2013, 11:19:36 AM »
I know I have been given the answer to this question before, about 2 years ago actually, but I have forgotten  what I was told  :-[(It' an age thing) and it was probably Atco , Dave Wilcox or John Smith that told me(Ithink).
What was the solution that John Wessels used to make his pewter copper coloured.?
You don't have to be one of the 3 mentioned above to tell me the answer :D
I thought it was copper sulphate but someone has said something different.
Regards
John

Hi John,
What you are looking for is copper patina or black patina. As the names suggest, one turns the pewter copper coloured and the other turns it black.

Usually stocked by suppliers of leaded glass materials. Here's a link to one in Bristol. http://www.creativeglassguild.co.uk/cat/studio-supplies/stained-glass-materials/fluxes-chemicals
