Hi Paul...it is, indeed, oak, and a good attempt for a first box; the finish on the end grain looks spot-on.

I well remember my first turned box, just several months ago. The concept of turning boxes really appealed to me and I can still remember just how much time (and concentration) my first one took. I still really enjoy making them and it's great to see that they are popular things. Keep at it...keep practising and get them deeper....practice pays off!

Well done for a first attempt....Les

An very nice end grain oak box and very well finished on the inside bottom.

Well Done.

Hello Paul,
if this is your first attempt at a box I think you have done very well. Next time may I suggest that you try to get an even sand all the way up the inside and be careful about sanding off the crisp edge on the lid detail.
You may also find it easier to turn a round bottom inside rather that a square flat one. It appears that you have a nice even wall thickness and I assume the lid is the same, all in all I would say good effort and keep it up.

Hi Paul, One very nice little Oak box, besides end grain, given the coarseness of Oak, not the easiest to turn and finish, indeed a piece well done.

Cheers  David
