What is it ..
« on: August 12, 2013, 08:19:08 PM »

Cycling round the local back lanes the weekend (the haunt generally of Fly Tippers) yielded a large log dumped, too big for the cycle rack almost, 11" x 12" x 7" aprox. amidst truff .. the only piece ..  :( ..  Well Lads thinking cap on, what is it .. it's a stump which has just been re-cut off above the root as the leaves were still fresh ..
....  ....  ...  Had washed off the earlier cut surface ..  ...  Decent find or firewood ..

Cheers    David

It looks like laurel to me from the bark and the leaf that are there

I'm of the same opinion,Bay  Laurel or similar.

But the question is - what will it be?
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

Thank you both so far for an answer, so it likely to be Grecian, Bay Laurel or just plain common.

What to do with it, it's a big odd shape to maybe make a single piece, it look to have two faults from two side and the heart without checking further could have some decay, some nice figure and spalt too, work out the flat sides, could yield a pair or more of natural edged bowls, size it down an a large platter and some bowls, or a shed load of pen blanks ..   :D ..

Cheers for now.   David

Ok Woody, I put address an stamp on it and get it the post ...  :D .. That's if the PO will handle it .. the list now as to what they won't ship..  Had to be just in time that it was lucky to send the parting tool, likely not to be able too now, as things sharp.

It is to be hoped ... I'll get around to it while it's still green-ish ...
